Simple question about tree growth?

Hello, if I build a higher around as a circle around my tree, and place more soil in the ground to allow the tree to be level than the wall I built, would the roots of the tree go through the wall, or will it feel the restance and go downward? I want to play a LeyLand Cypress and make the wall around it higher, about six to seven inches. So I would have to add more dirt, but I wonder if the roots could go through the wall and be shown above the ground instead of going down into the earth.
