Where in Houston, Texas should I live? (Early to mid 20's)?

I'm 23 and I'm moving to northwestern Houston, TX to work for HP. I have heard of a few places like Cypress and Katy possibly to live but otherwise I have no idea where someone my age who likes young people and wants to go out at night would have a good time living. I'm looking for an apartment for under $1000.
